Telstars have just won the ‘Best Production’ and ‘Best Individual Performance’ awards at the Glamorgan Drama League Festival 2008 held in Swansea’s Dylan Thomas Theatre. This initial heat is part of the British One Act Festival 2008 which culminates in June this year. ‘Watching the Magpies’ by Les Clarke is a beautiful, touching drama which tells the story of two elderly ladies who are facing eviction after their house has been sold. Much praise was given to the sensitive and imaginative handling of the play by Teri McCarthy, Director and the great team work of the cast: Kay Baber, Suzanne Mainwaring and Paul Robinson.

Suzanne Mainwaring was awarded ‘Best Individual Performance’ for her portrayal of Dottie in ‘Watching the Magpies’. She follows in the footsteps of Kay, a winner of this award (and many others!) on several former occasions.

Meanwhile, Telstars’ second entry into the Festival, the comedy ‘Parasites’ (also directed by Teri McCarthy) met with great acclaim and won Jo West the award for ‘Best Individual Performance in a Comedic Role’. Jo takes the title that was won by Paul Robinson of Telstars in 2007 for ‘A Little Extra Help’ – a play written and directed by Jo!

The group hopes to stage another performance in Cardiff in the very near future so watch out for details.
